Shoot in Pitch Dark and Experiment with Infrared Photography

Midnight Shot NV-1 Night Vision Camera

Digital cameras aren't exactly the most exciting gadgets these days... that's why you can trust your friends at ThinkGeek to up the ante and deliver the Midnight Shot NV-1 Night Vision Camera. You get 5.0 megapixels and an invisible infrared flash to light up your subjects in total darkness. Or experiment with Infrared photography that lets you do crazy stuff like see through some types of fabric and materials.

The Midnight Shot NV-1 Night Vision Camera is switchable between standard photography mode and infrared night-shot mode. When you enter night-shot the infrared blocking filter normally over the lens retracts to let all infrared light through, at the same time a super-bright IR LED invisibly illuminates (to your eyes) the entire scene.

You'll notice that during the daytime in night vision mode you can see through some types of clothing, paper and other various thin materials. This is because infrared light can penetrate these surfaces while light visible to the human eye bounces off. The Midnight Shot NV-1 sees both visible light and infrared light, making both viewable to humans. If you want to accentuate this effect you can make your own (or buy) an infrared filter which allows only infrared light to pass through, eliminating the visible light spectrum.
Important Note:
Respect the privacy of your fellow humans and don't use the Midnight Shot NV-1 Night Vision Camera for evil.

Retro Gaming Emulation Juggernaut... Redux

GP2X Caanoo MAME/Console Emulator

You may be familiar with the original GP2X Wiz gaming console that emulated over a dozen different gaming systems and made pocket size retro-gaming nostalgia a reality. Now GP2X has launched the Caanoo... a new improved version of the Wiz with a larger screen and improved controls. Of course incredible MAME emulation allows you to run all your favorite arcade video game classics, even vector games. Amiga game emulation is rock solid. Commodore 64, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, NeoGeo, Flash Games and more too numerous to mention. Of course you'll need to find yourself some game roms... but we have a feeling that's no problem for you and Google.

The Caanoo can do a host of other useful things besides gaming. It can play video files including MPEG4, Xvid and DIVX. You get a built in e-book reader, calendar, voice recorder... etc... you know the drill. Unlimited storage is available via the SD (SDHC) card slot. The high-res touchscreen makes navigation easy and the gaming controls feature a thumbstick on the left with 4 buttons on the right and two shoulder buttons on the top. It's plenty good for anything a retro game can dish out. There is an active development community for the Caanoo and with a respectable ARM9 533MHz Processor overclockable to 800Mhz you've got plenty of power to play with if you're interested to write your own applications. Now you can actually sell your own apps via the new FunGP site if you're interested. Details are below.

Caution: Please Read Before Ordering
The Caanoo does not come with any games, emulator software or game roms pre-installed. First you need to provide your own SD card to load games onto. Then you'll need to download the freeware emulator app for the console or computer system you want to emulate. Then you'll need to unzip the emulator software, and copy it to an SD card along with some game roms you've downloaded. Then start-up the Caanoo, and run the emulator from the "Games" menu. Inside the emulator you'll choose the rom you want to load and then the game can begin. Each emulator software interface is a bit different and most give you the option to overclock the Caanoo to get the best performance. Remember you are running emulator software... most games work perfectly, but some may run slow or be glitchy. You may have to configure the controls to work well with the game you want to play. Documentation is not always the best, so you might need to put in a bit of effort to figure things out. If any of this scares you, then you may want to reconsider your purchase.

Here is a great site where you can freely download all the emulators available for the Caanoo as well as other homebrew software. Please take a look at this before you buy. http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/wiz.cgi

FunGP App Store for Caanoo
For those looking for another option to get software and Apps onto your Caanoo you can try FunGP, run by Korean manufacturer Gamepark. This gives you a more "App Store" like experience where you'll find some unusal but cool Korean games for purchase.

Retro Musical Droid Arrives... from the Future

Bliptronic 5000 LED Synthesizer

If HAL 9000 mated with R2-D2 and their electronic offspring was tutored by Kraftwerk it would probably end up something like the Bliptronic 5000 LED Synthesizer.

At once a minimalist musical plaything and a hardcore old-skool synthesizer, the Bliptronic defies categorization as it belts out 8-Bit style style tunes from its grid of glowing buttons.

You'll notice sound similar to a retro Casiotone with an interface not unlike a simplified Yamaha TENORI-ON... if that makes any sense. Either way, once you start touching the keys of the Bliptronic you'll be hooked by it's simple pattern-based approach to music.

Bliptronic Philosophy... in Regards to Music
In the world of the Bliptronic, creating a song revolves around an ever evolving 4-beat pattern. Each row of vertical buttons represents the notes in one octave. Push a button to turn on a note, push the button again to turn off a note. Push multiple buttons in one vertical row to make a chord. The Bliptronic plays whatever you have selected in sequence horizontally across the display. When it reaches the end of the pattern, it repeats. The genius comes as you modify the pattern by turning notes on and off while the pattern is still looping to create evolving electronic melodies.

Knobs and Buttons, There are Some
In addition to the grid of glowing LED buttons you'll notice some other controls on the Bliptronic. These allow you to set the tempo (From 60-160 BPM), choose the instrument (From 8 different retro-synth type sounds), adjust the volume and turn looping on or off. A big "play" button at the bottom makes the Bliptronic uh... play. If you hit it again it stops. Yep.

The Bliptronic is a Social Butterfly
One Bliptronic is grand, but more Bliptronics are even grander. An infinite number of Bliptronics can be attached together using the link ports and included cables. When one Bliptronic reaches the end of it's pattern, the next Bliptronic is instantly triggered to start playing. This allows you to make longer songs where each person controls a section of the song. You can even set the tempo and instrument differently on each Bliptronic in the chain to achieve unconventional musical results.Geek Toys

Designed specifically for iDevices

iMSO-104 iPad Oscilloscope

iMSO-104 is the first mixed signal oscilloscope designed specifically for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. It is intuitive and easy to use, which is why it's the preferred scope for the next generation of inventors. (The kind of inventors we sometimes hire here at ThinkGeek.)

Intuitive hand gestures are used to navigate:
•Trigger Level - Setting the analog trigger level is as easy as touching the right side of the screen and swiping either up or down.
•Zooming – Changing the vertical & horizontal scales can be done by moving two fingers away from each other. To zoom out, simply pinch the screen moving two fingers toward each other.
•Repositioning Channels - Both the analog and digital channels are also easy to reposition. Touch and swipe the desired channel to any position on the screen to customize your display.

But don’t take our word for it. Download iMSO in the App Store and test drive the interface for free! Oscium is making test equipment more intuitive so that the inventor can spend more time debugging than fumbling with the test equipment interface. And less time wasted fumbling with crappy test equipment equals more awesome inventions.
