It uses a few seriously strong magnets to actually repel the arm up to the full flinging position. You can even feel the magnetic forces fighting each other as you bend the arm down to, well, arm it. Add one of the soft foam balls, and you're ready to explore the massive force of two magnets opposing each other - just as soon as you flip the firing trigger.
